INGREDIENTS

Protein Bites! was formed on the idea of health, heartiness and taste.

We use Stevia as a sweetener. It's a somewhat controversial product, depending on where you live in this world. It's an all natural product, grown in Paraguay. It is 100 times sweeter than sugar, has ZERO calories and is not a processed sugar replacement!

Whey Protein Isolate: Whey protein isolate is fat-free, and it's filling. It also has a very high biological value, or BV. BV is a measure of the body's ability to absorb a protein. The naturally occurring protein source with the highest BV is an egg, with a BV of 100. Whey protein is around 104.
Basically, whey protein is pure, no-frills protein, designed to be absorbed thoroughly and quickly. The speed of absorption matters because it affects the anabolic, or muscle-building, qualities of the protein. Protein is vital to your body's function. It helps your cells grow, replace themselves and repair themselves. In fact, protein is a component of every major body system and every fluid except bile and urine.

Oats: They contain vitamin E, several B-vitamins, calcium, magnesium and potassium. Oats also have some of the trace minerals selenium, copper, zinc, iron and manganese. They’re full of good-for-you phytochemicals and have both soluble and insoluble fiber. Oats have been found to benefit heart health, lower blood pressure, and can even help prevent diabetes as part as a high whole-grain diet.

Sunflower Seeds: Sunflower seeds are an excellent source of vitamin E, the body's primary fat-soluble antioxidant. Vitamin E travels throughout the body neutralizing free radicals that would otherwise damage fat-containing structures and molecules, such as cell membranes, brain cells, and cholesterol. By protecting these cellular and molecular components, vitamin E has significant anti-inflammatory effects that result in the reduction of symptoms in asthma, osteoarthritis, and rheumatoid arthritis, conditions where free radicals and inflammation play a big role. Vitamin E has also been shown to reduce the risk of colon cancer, help decrease the severity and frequency of hot flashes in women going through menopause, and help reduce the development of diabetic complications.

Sunflower seeds are a good source of magnesium. Numerous studies have demonstrated that magnesium helps reduce the severity of asthma, lower high blood pressure, and prevent migraine headaches, as well as reducing the risk of heart attack and stroke.

Pumpkin Seeds: Pumpkin seeds are high in zinc and are a great natural resource for this much needed nutrition. Low levels of zinc are one of the links to osteoporosis.
Pumpkin seeds help promote a healthy prostate and minimize the issues such as urination problems due to an enlarged prostate. Prostate problems are most common in men over fifty.
Another known benefit of pumpkin seeds is their ability to help lower LDL “bad” cholesterol. That is because the seeds have phytosterols, a compound that not only helps lower cholesterol but helps protect against certain cancers.

Chia Seeds (yes, as in Chia Pet) instead of flax seed in February 2010. Besides having more antioxidant powers than the common blueberry, here is why:

They are packed full of fatty acids like Omega-3’s, iron, antioxidants, protein, fiber, calcium, selenium and almost every single vitamin and mineral that the body needs to function at optimal health. That is a whole lot of nutrition in one tiny seed. So much so that the World Health Organization has categorized chia seeds as a complete food.
A super food
One of the most beneficial features of the chia seed is the unique gel that is formed when the seed is exposed to water. This gel has no calories and no flavor. It absorbs the flavor of whatever it is mixed with to fill you up faster and keep you full longer and not add any calories. Imagine just the effect of that one factor to anyone that is trying to lose weight or anyone that has diabetes. Chia seeds are the perfect way to eat not only less but healthier when dieting. You can add it to anything you eat and you will eat less. You can even use chia gel as an alternative to all the fats used in baked goods by replacing half the fat (butter, margarine, Crisco, oil) with the same amount of gel.

Diabetics are much healthier for much longer if they can maintain their blood sugar levels as much as possible. The fibres in chia seeds combine and slow down the function that turns carbohydrates into sugars which means the blood sugar levels will not spike as much but will remain at healthier, steady levels. Chia seeds are also excellent for increasing your energy levels, cleaning and healing wounds, constipation, arthritis and heart disease.

In addition, these friendly little seeds are so packed full of antioxidants that they do a wonderful job of preventing skin aging and tissue inflammation that tends to come more frequently as we age.

Cherries: The cherry is high in iron, and is an excellent laxative as well as a wonderful blood builder.
It is a wonderful gall bladder and liver cleanser because of its high iron content.
Cherries are rich in beta-carotene, vitamin B1, C, calcium, copper, iron, manganese, phosphorus, potassium, silicon, flavonoids and fiber, pectin.

The nutrients and compounds found in cherries give the following health benefits..

  • Help fight cancer
  • Aid in prevention of heart disease
  • Relieve Pain of Arthritis, Gout, Headaches
  • Ease the symptoms associated with Fibromyalgia Syndrome
  • Provide a healthy and safe way to produce melatonin
  • Improve physiological and mental functions
Raisins: They are cholesterol and fat free and have very little sodium content and can thus be enjoyed by all, without the fear of any aliment, be it that concerning the heart or that concerning your weight.

The main health benefits of raisins revolve around its antioxidant properties. Being an antioxidant, raisins provide a wide range of health benefits like helping in cleansing of blood, preventing mascular degeneration, keeping the bones and teeth stronger and many more. Raisins are known to be beneficial for women in particular due to its property to prevent osteoporosis through natural strengthening of bone density.

Along with above given benefits, one should keep in mind the rich nutritional properties of raisins. They are a good source of important nutrients like vitamin B, calcium, potassium and iron.

Cocoa/Dark Chocolate Chips: Chocolate and cocoa derive their health benefits from flavonoids which are plant pigments capable of acting as antioxidants to counteract some of the cellular damage that can lead to chronic diseases such as cancer and heart disease. Cocoa powder has also been shown to lower blood pressure and improve blood flow in humans.

Cranberries: Cranberries contain proanthocyanidins (PACs) that can prevent the adhesion of certain of bacteria, including E. coli, associated with urinary tract infections to the urinary tract wall. The anti-adhesion properties of cranberry may also inhibit the bacteria associated with gum disease and stomach ulcers.
Recent scientific research shows that cranberries and cranberry products contain significant amounts of antioxidants and other phytonutrients that may help protect against heart disease, cancer and other diseases.
Cranberries have been shown to contain more antioxidant phenols than 19 commonly eaten fruits

Apples: A rich source of flavonoid and polyphenols, both are powerful antioxidants. Apples contain a large amount of minerals and vitamins that can strengthen the blood. They contain malic acid and tartaric acid, that can help prevent disturbances of the liver and digestion.

Cinnamon: Studies have shown that just 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon per day can lower LDL cholesterol. Several studies suggest that cinnamon may have a regulatory effect on blood sugar, making it especially beneficial for people with Type 2 Diabetes. It helps decrease high cholesterol, which is required to make new bile after the body removes it from the Cinnamon’s fiber. 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon can lower LDL cholesterol.
